Khomotso and Mike Tladi’s 10 Year Wedding Anniversary

How we Met…

Khomotso:

“We met in April 2003 at the then Technikon Northern Gauteng (now Tshwane University of Technology). I was on my way back from another campus in a fully packed bus and so was he. I did not see him in the bus as I was squeezed, he must have noticed me then. When I got out of the bus, there was commotion at the campus…I stood under the tree to check what the commotion was about and then he came to me and started talking to me.”

Mike:

“After seeing her innocent face I felt that I had to talk to her. I looked for her after we got off the bus and found her under a tree…I greeted her and she greeted back and I could see that she didn’t want me to go further than the greetings. I asked for her numbers (both cell phone number and room number) but she opted to take mine instead. She didn’t call me for weeks and I was happy when she called and we met on the same day she called, she wanted me to help her with some applications! I wasn’t too bothered because I appreciated the fact that I was spending some time with her. I was over the moon when she agreed to join me at my graduation party.”

Khomotso:

“He left for Welkom as he had found a job there. You know the saying that distance makes the heart grow fonder. I started thinking about him often when he was away. We were in a long distance relationship and he decided to introduce me to his mom.”

The Proposal

Khomotso:

“He gave me a promise ring sometime in 2004 to say that one day he will marry me.”

Mike:

“I knew that she had to be the mother of my kids and the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with so I wanted her to know that I was serious about her, hence the promise ring!”

Khomotso:

“He did not do the “one knee proposal” thing. Talk about being romantic! One day in 2005 he just told me that he will be sending his parents to my parent’s home to ask for my hand in marriage and to start the lobola negotiations. The lobola part was finalized in December 2006.”

Mike:

“I did the “one knee proposal “ when I gave her the promise ring. Was I supposed to do it again?”

Our Journey

Mike:

“Our union was legalized on the 20th of August 2007 in Pretoria with some members of our families present. “

Khomotso:

“We were blessed with a daughter, Orethabisitse in 2006 and a son, Tshegofatso in 2011.

What We Like About Each Other …

Khomotso:

“He is loving, caring, puts his family first, respectful, considerate and more.”

Mike:

“Although she talks a lot, she speaks her mind, she takes good care of us and she loves her family. She hardly gets angry…that’s a plus, hahahaha!”

Most memorable moment for Mike:

Seeing Khomotso walk down the aisle

Vision for the day:

Khomotoso: “We wanted elegance; we wanted people to see the grace of God through us and to have just a beautiful day with our families and friends.
